Let us First Understand why Retrospectives Fail

This fourth video is the 1st of 6 in the series dedicated to "Rebooting Your Retrospectives".

Most teams love their Agile practices, regardless of whether it is Scrum or Kanban or down in the depths of SAFe or DSDM. Yet after a few iterations, the retrospectives start to tire and become less interesting and ultimately someone in the team will say "why are we doing this?".

However, retrospectives are the key to continuous improvement and we have to keep them fresh. So, in this video I explain the symptoms that you should be looking out for, specifically

  • Poor management, or rather management that "knows better".
  • People not feeling as though they can speak the truth because they fear the reaction of others.
  • There is no follow-up.
  • We don't keep the whole system in view.
  • The team is dominated by one person's wishes.
  • They have simply become boring.
